Overview

Periodontics is a type of dentistry that concentrates on the gums. These specialists focus on the prevention and treatment of gum-related diseases and oral inflammation. Common treatments include deep cleaning, a scaling and root planning procedure that removes plaque build-up beneath the gums. Periodontists also remove damaged gum tissues and repair dental implants. The programme administers diseases related to the structure and parts of teeth including gums, periodontal membranes, cementum and alveolar bone and provides prevention and cure related to these diseases.

Program Aim

After successfully completing the Master of Dentistry in Pediatric Dentistry programme, the students will be able to:

Appraise and apply evidenced-based periodontal concepts, theories, and modern knowledge relevant to the safe practice of periodontology
Develop an entrepreneurship strategy based on the need of the society and knowledge on management of support staff, maintaining professional network, and financial viability
Apply the core scientific and clinical knowledge in the decision-making process, clinical reasoning, and judgment to develop a comprehensive diagnosis and treatment plan
Manage periodontal cases with different degrees of complexity including medically compromised and special needs patients
Interpret and communicate knowledge, skills, and ideas in delivering specialist treatment considering patients desires and attitudes
Support the professional development, preventive strategies, and education for all members of the community in collaboration with dental team members
