Overview

Internal medicine deals with the spectrum of diagnosing severe diseases that occur in the various organs of the body, which are then treated by doctors specialized in that field. The Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) in Internal Medicine programme by Lincoln University (LU), Lesotho is meant to equip the students with the knowledge and skills necessary to obtain employment in prestigious institutions, or practise privately. This course trains students to practise as Internal medicine physicians, or internists impacting the lives of individuals with diagnosis of severe diseases that occur in the various organs of the body.

Program Aim

Upon the completion of the course student will be able to:

  • Demonstrate professional and clinical competence in the practise of internal medicine upon completion of the course
  • Enhance students’ critical thinking skills so they can work effectively on inter- and multi-disciplinary health care projects.
  • Develop students’ abilities and prepare them for the internal medicine industry and profession
  • Attain a basic understanding of quality improvement and patient safety
  • Be a socially well-adjusted residents through a programmatic focus on physician well-being, with the intent being that emotionally healthy physicians will be more resilient and able to deliver the best care to our community
