Overview
In contrast to the typical MBBS degree, Paramedical Science courses are profession-oriented medical training courses that enable students to develop a career in the medical industry in a short amount of time and at a low cost. Candidates can enter the medical industry through Paramedical Science courses in areas such as medical emergency, aid, and diagnostics.
Numerous jobs become available following the education of Paramedical Science. LU’s Bachelor of Paramedical Science (BPS) is a five-year programme. It is designed to fulfill these major components of education related to the field of Paramedical Science:
- Human Anatomy & Physiology
- Ocular Anatomy & Physiology
- Physical and Geometrical Optics
- Biomechanics & Kinesiology.
- Fundamental of Exercise therapy.
- General Biochemistry
- General Pathology & Microbiology
- Pharmacology.
This program is conducted in two stages:
Preclinical Phase: A two-year programme that includes Medical Science courses (Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Dental Courses), Professional Development and Information Technology, Oral Biology, Society and Health, Preventive Dentistry, Dental Public Health, Dental Materials, and Dental Technology. The latter is designed to help the students learn about the technical aspects of Paramedical Science. Assessments take place every semester, along with yearly professional examinations.
Clinical Phase: This phase covers the next three years of study. In this phase, integrated teaching and learning process is undertaken to expose the students to works related to the domain of Paramedical Science. These skills and acquire knowledge about a particular discipline of dentistry through research exercises that are of interest to them. It includes subjects such as Echocardiography, Electrophysiology, Transfusion Science and Phlebotomy, Care of the Critically Ill Patient, Clinical Leadership and the Transition to Autonomous Paramedic Practice, Patient Care and Professionalism, Medical technology and engineering, Advanced Patient Assessments, Laboratory Science and Instrumentation etc. Students of this program will also be exposed to medical subjects, namely, General Medicine and General Surgery for better treatment of patients with chronic illness, who may require special needs as far as dental treatment is concerned.
